Signs Your Workload is Leaving You Emotionally Running on Empty
When the fast-paced demands of a corporate career or commuting across the Hudson follow you home, chronic stress shifts from a temporary challenge into full-blown burnout. You might notice your exhaustion showing up as:
-
Chronic Overthinking: Lying awake at night or spending your weekends micro-analyzing emails, project timelines, and impending deadlines.
-
Productivity-Based Self-Worth: Feeling like your value is entirely tied to your output, leading to severe perfectionism and a harsh inner critic.
-
Emotional Exhaustion: Feeling drained even after a full night of sleep, making it impossible to truly disconnect or be present outside of work.
-
Resentment and Dread: Experiencing a persistent cloud of cynicism regarding your career, mixed with an intense Sunday-night anxiety loop.
-
Eroding Personal Boundaries: Finding it incredibly difficult to say "no" to extra projects or protect your personal time from bleeding into your shift.
How a Burnout Therapist in Jersey City & Hoboken Can Help
Recovering from severe work exhaustion isn't just about managing your calendar or squeezing more sleep into an already cramped life. True relief begins when we look underneath the surface at the root causes—the internal behaviors and professional pressures driving you to run on empty. In our individual counseling sessions, we will work together to:
-
Rewire Perfectionism: Shift away from impossible, self-imposed standards and build a sustainable, high-performing relationship with success that doesn’t cost your health.
-
Establish Guilt-Free Boundaries: Learn how to protect your personal downtime from professional text threads or demanding workloads without experiencing a wave of panic or obligation.
-
Regulate Your Nervous System: Teach your body that slowing down for a moment to rest and destress is safe, manageable, and won't result in catastrophe.
-
Restore Mental & Somatic Energy: Move out of a chronic state of "survival mode." By pairing targeted virtual support with evidence-based EMDR therapy and the active, real-world relief of walk-and-talk sessions, we give your mind and body a genuine chance to reset.
Support Built to Fit the Realities of a Demanding Career
Prioritizing your mental health shouldn't add another stressful commute to your day or stretch your calendar even thinner. I have intentionally designed three distinct care formats to offer maximum convenience and clinical efficiency:
The Midday Reset: Walk-and-Talk Therapy
You don't need to block out an entire evening or wait for the weekend to practice meaningful self-care. The Midday Reset is designed specifically for busy professionals to step completely away from their desks during the lunch hour.
Meeting directly at Exchange Place, we take our session outdoors, moving side-by-side along the Jersey City waterfront. This is a highly realistic, manageable way to engage in self-care. By stepping away from the screens and moving your body, you actively train your nervous system to recognize that taking a brief moment to destress is safe, reliable, and entirely permissible. It breaks the performance pressure of a traditional office setting and allows your physiology to access true regulation right in the middle of your workday. Crucially, we intentionally pace our session so your mind and body can reset and stabilize before you return to the office, helping you step back into your workplace feeling grounded, clear-headed, and mentally prepared for the rest of your afternoon.
Targeted Relief: Half-Day EMDR Intensives
When you are managing a high-powered career, committing to ongoing weekly therapy sessions can sometimes feel challenging. EMDR Intensives offer a faster, much more focused path to relief.
While weekly 50-minute sessions offer a powerful, steady rhythm for ongoing healing, intensives allow us to compress multiple weeks of traditional therapy into accelerated, highly concentrated blocks of deep work. To accommodate tight corporate schedules, I offer dedicated EMDR intensive blocks on Fridays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, as well as select Saturdays available periodically throughout the year.
Please note that this format is built specifically for individuals whose current burnout is the direct result of coping behaviors that reflect deep, underlying trauma. During our intensive blocks, we go straight to the root to process that foundational trauma. By healing the source, we systematically dismantle the drivers of your exhaustion—including severe perfectionism, chronic people-pleasing, and a belief that your self-worth is tied to your achievements. This deep work allows you to break free from these survival patterns so they no longer drive you toward perpetual burnout. Consequently, this structure is not intended for individuals looking for a superficial "shortcut" to general counseling, but rather for those ready to do focused, root-level trauma healing.
Zero-Commute Convenience: Secure Online Therapy
If you are already stretched thin, the absolute last thing you need is the logistics of traveling to a physical office. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy across New Jersey and Pennsylvania that eliminates the commute entirely. You can seamlessly log into our virtual room right from your private office, home workspace, or wherever you feel comfortable. It provides consistent, high-quality care that fits perfectly between your meetings without adding friction to your day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Burnout Therapy & Specialized Formats
It is completely natural to have questions before starting therapy or exploring a new treatment format. Here are a few things I frequently discuss with high-performing professionals to help them choose the right path forward:
How do I know if I'm just stressed or completely burned out?
Stress and burnout exist on a continuum. Stress usually involves feeling flooded by over-activity, anxiety, and a sense that if you could just get everything under control, you would feel better. Burnout is a state of chronic depletion where you feel completely empty, cynical, and detached—no amount of sleep or time off seems to fix the exhaustion. If you are starting to notice that your weekends are no longer enough to recharge your battery, you are likely on your way toward burnout. Now is the absolute best time to act. You do not have to wait until you completely crash to start changing the patterns and processing what's driving you to run on empty.
How does confidentiality work for waterfront walk-and-talk therapy?
Confidentiality is a top priority, and we establish a clear protocol before we ever step outside. We meet near Exchange Place and walk along the open paths of the Jersey City waterfront, where the layout allows us to talk comfortably without being overheard by passersby.
If we see a colleague or client approaching, we handle it based entirely on your comfort level. If you want to completely avoid them, we will instantly change paths, turn around, or simply pass by without making eye contact. If an encounter is unavoidable, we can pause our conversation and switch seamlessly to casual talk. You are never forced to greet anyone, and you remain in absolute control of your privacy.
What happens if it rains during a scheduled Midday Reset session?
If the weather makes an outdoor session uncomfortable or impractical, we have a seamless backup plan. We will instantly pivot to a secure online therapy session at your identical scheduled time slot. You never have to worry about losing your care block due to rain or changing seasonal weather.
How does an EMDR intensive differ from traditional weekly EMDR therapy?
Traditional EMDR therapy typically takes place in 50-minute weekly increments, where a significant portion of each session is spent checking in, setting up the target, and cooling down before you return to work. EMDR intensives bypass this weekly stop-and-start cycle. By working in a highly focused, 3-hour block on Fridays (or select Saturdays), we maintain therapeutic momentum, allow your brain to process deeper trauma networks uninterrupted, and compress weeks of standard weekly therapy into a shorter period of time. It is a highly efficient structure designed specifically to protect your calendar while getting straight to the root of your burnout.
How do I know if an EMDR intensive or weekly therapy is better for my burnout?
If your exhaustion is heavily driven by patterns rooted in underlying trauma—such as severe perfectionism or achievement-based self-worth—an EMDR intensive is highly effective for processing those foundational issues directly. However, these approaches do not have to be mutually exclusive. For comprehensive care, an EMDR intensive can be beautifully paired with Midday Reset walk-and-talk sessions or secure online therapy. This hybrid model allows us to clear the root-level blocks while simultaneously giving you real-time weekly support to navigate current workplace stressors, establish boundaries, and build active regulation tools. We can map out a customized plan that fits your life during our initial intake session.
Do you accept insurance for burnout counseling?
I operate as an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance directly. However, if your plan includes out-of-network benefits for mental health, I can provide a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. I highly recommend calling your provider beforehand to verify your specific outpatient mental health benefits.
